Prototype Technician

The Prototype Technician is responsible for fabricating quality components, models, prototypes and/or test fixtures while showcasing his/her attention to detail. This individual contributor will have experience in the methods, materials, and techniques to quickly produce prototypes while conforming to established standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Must be an accomplished Fabricator, Welder, and Machinist
• Minimum 5 years' experience in tube and sheet metal fabrication
• Working knowledge of CAD/CAM tools
• Certified Manufacturing Technician strongly preferred
• Proficiency at welding carbon, galvanized, stainless steel and aluminum
• Ability to program and operate most fabrication equipment
• Ability to manufacture products to specifications without fixtures
• Reads and understands engineering drawings, weld symbols, and bill of materials
• Ability and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced product development environment
• Knowledge of production, quality standards, and assembly procedures and processes

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for producing visual and functional mechanical prototypes of high quality
• Support engineering requirements for prototype tools, sub-assembly units and test fixtures
• Generate finished prototype from a rough idea or sketch
• Supports the design of simple fixtures and internal utility carts
• Track and properly identify charges for materials, supplies, and equipment utilized in protoype center
• Drive innovation and implementation of cost reduction ideas on new and legacy products
• Implement standardization of product function/performance and/or process improvement
• Maintains a professional prototype shop with safe condition and operating practices
