Production Shipping Supervisor

Description:     Supervise associates to ship goods for the company while maintaining a safe work environment in department for compliance with OSHA, company and other necessary rules and regulations. Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment, area, and paperwork. Always follows NCC forklift rules. Actively participates in LEAN initiatives and demonstrate continuous improvement. Works all jobs in department, as needed and trained on. Associate will help out in other areas, as needed. Has the authority to issue coaching and disciplinary action.  Review Time & Attendance daily for Shipping department.

 

Requirements: Reading, math, and communication skills equivalent to high school diploma plus additional specialized training provided by company, extended hours before and after shift as required, and previous manufacturing shipping experience required. Associate should be able to use bar code readers, computer terminals, or other electronic devices. Must provide positive leadership and support the company's goals through the efficient use of personnel. Must adhere to company regulations and follow Code of Conduct.

Daily Tasks:      

  • Communicate safety, quality and productivity expectations, and then follow up to inspect expectations periodically
  • Able to follow the instructions given to them
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; teaches associates to do also
  • Must be able to meet goals set by supervisor
  • Working from schedule assign task to associates, communicate with other departments to ensure schedule success
  • Timely loading/unloading of trucks
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness especially with ship lists; assure quantity always matches paperwork
  • Accurate completion of required paperwork at time of shipment or receipt of merchandise
  • Preventative maintenance and all regularly scheduled maintenance of machine tooling, hand tools and machinery to maintain in good working order; Schedule major maintenance work with the Maintenance Department
  • Review of merchandise prior to packaging to ensure quality, quantity, and properly labeled
  • Loads and unloads trucks to make sure product arrives as it left company
  • Secure loads with straps & load bars ensuring protection of merchandise to prevent freight damage
  • Drive and train others to use the Yard Dog; Spot trailers
  • Be able to accurately weigh merchandise
  • Accurately receive, verify, and inventory incoming shipments of merchandise or other raw materials
  • Responsible for accuracy of data capture of every task being performed via ERP - IQMS or special manufacturing order.       Confirm paper work is 100% complete, accurate, legible and returned to appropriate area immediately upon completion of the run per set up.
  • Understands how to do scan shipping in conjunction with the computer
  • Fill out and package small shipments for UPS & FedEx including processing paperwork, packing slip and labels
  • Be able to call in trucks with ready times and total amount of space when needed
  • Excellent product knowledge (i.e. knows product by model number, which components are required to make complete units, how different products are to be packaged and secured, etc.)
  • Train others how to correctly complete BOL (Bill of Lading), shipping labels, and packing slips
  • Train others how to correctly create pallet ID labels and item bar code labels
  • Can use forklift to move merchandise safely; follow all company rules associated with forklift operations, preferably not spend time on the forklift; wear forklift license on person at all times
  • Communicate with the Less than Truckload (LTL) drivers on paperwork and Pro numbers
  • Make sure shipping inspections are being completed and labeled appropriately
  • Assist with inventory of merchandise and raw materials
  • Completes Incident Reports with Manager approval
  • Ensures that all operators are performing at the level at which they are rated. Notifies the shift supervisor if someone in the cell is operating above or below their rated level. Commends operators for a good job, and request reprimands when necessary
  • Must keep work area clean and neat; complete daily cleaning schedules; maintain company 5S score.
  • Responsible for inventory of all items associated with the department (i.e. raw materials, consumable items(boxes, straps, load bars), etc.)
  • Asks for and offers help when needed
  • Ability to identify problems and communicate those problems to supervision; Resolve concerns and improve operations
  • Shows initiative- ability to begin job with little supervision
  • Ability to learn new tasks
  • Troubleshoots and communicates  problems with products, components, tools and overall quality of product being loaded

  • Ensures coverage for the department, approves vacation for the Shipping personnel, makes out and follows cross training schedule, and delegates the associates that will stay late on each day
  • Communicates the importance of the shipping process and ensures that all associates that are shipping items out, follow that process
  • Responsible for delegating work to the department on a daily basis
  • Responsible for the communication board in the department, listing the carrier, the lane that the product will be staged, the appointment times, etc. Ensures that all associates are filling out the information in a timely manor
  • Makes sure that the daily checklist is followed and completed everyday
  • Responsible for any quality issues that occur as a result of the Shipping department, maintain the "quality board" by posting the issue and recommending corrective actions for the problems that have occurred
  • Attend daily production meeting, gather truck times for the next day's shipments and determine spacing daily or when requested by the Traffic Manager
  • Lead the daily huddle meeting
  • Distribute, enforce and verify cleaning schedules to the responsible associates
  • Perform monthly 5S audits in the areas assigned
