Plant Manager

Summary Description:  Responsible for total overall operation at the plant and fosters the NCC 'Safer-Better-Faster' culture.  Actively monitors, measures, and reacts to safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory metrics to daily, weekly, and monthly goals.  Cultivates a well-trained and motivated workforce that operates in compliance with applicable regulations. Earnestly adheres to and upholds plant policies and procedures for National Cart Co. Implements programs within the plant to support HR, environmental, health, safety, quality, lean, and preventative maintenance initiatives.  Site representative to local regulatory agencies.

 Requirements & Qualifications: 

  • College-level Associate's degree plus additional specialized training provided by company. Formal training in Lean Manufacturing, MRP, EHS, and data analysis preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in leadership/ supervisory roles with Site ownership responsibility.   Exhibits ownership/responsibility of all facets of operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain clear lines of communication with customers/NCC staff/vendors.
  • Experience with metal fabrication equipment, and ability to maintain/troubleshoot/repair equipment.
  • Able to effectively utilize the ERP/MRP business system for all aspects of the operation, including maintaining inventory levels according to demand.
  • Site Champion for company regulations and Code of Conduct. Must provide positive leadership and support the company's goals through the efficient use of personnel.
  • Outstanding commitment and attendance, working extended hours before and after shift as required.

Principle Accountabilities:   To be completed with instructions from Operations VP

 Safer:

  • Champion a secure, safe and organized working environment in compliance with OSHA, company policy and other applicable laws
  • Direct plant associates in reducing the frequency and severity of accidents with thorough investigation, root cause analysis and prevention techniques (lessons learned)
  • Manage preventative maintenance of all tools and machinery to maintain in good working order
  • Monitor team for compliance to company policies and procedures, document and enforce all work rules.
  • Develop safety program policies and training materials for assigned programs.
  • Lock out unsafe equipment to prevent use.
  • Secure the building daily and respond appropriately to fire/building alarms.

 Better:

  • Conduct daily meeting with associates to discuss daily goals and assignments; follow-up to inspect expectations are being met. Communicate company goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy of data capture of every task being performed via MRP or manufacturing work order. Confirm paperwork is 100% complete, accurate, legible and returned to appropriate area immediately upon completion of the run per set up.
  • Review and propose corrections to Bills of Materials as needed for material and labor values.
  • Ensure equipment is setup and operated properly to produce quality parts.
  • Ensure first piece inspections are being completed by a qualified associate and labeled appropriately
  • Ensure latest released prints are used to verify first piece quality for all jobs run
  • Implement and maintain 5S Program; Must keep work area clean and neat; complete daily cleaning schedules; maintain company 5S score

 Faster:

  • Develop production schedules and assign tasks to associates; coordinate inventory and shipping activities with NCC to ensure schedule success.
  • Execute the daily production plan to ensure customer orders are completed on time, in a safe and productive manner. Proactively address and resolve material, work center, and associate related issues.
  • Identify, communicate and address production constraints to avoid backorders
  • Communicate with NCC Global Supply Chain Manager to determine requirements and needs
  • Ensure jobs are run at standard or better rates; track progress and identify areas for improvement. Perform root cause analysis and recommend solutions to implement.
  • Manage plant costs to achieve or exceed standards
  • Continuous improvement of operations. Utilize process monitors for all jobs run; use to identify and resolve problems and improve operations. Continually seek waste reducing opportunities to improve performance.

 Growth:

  • Support the addition of additional material, equipment, and manpower as necessary in order to leverage the facilities fixed costs.
  • Bring new products into production following the new product development (NPD) process.        

Team:

  • Communicate safety, quality and productivity expectations to associates and then follow up to inspect expectations periodically
  • Prepare and conduct any performance reviews, disciplinary action, or coaching in a timely manner
  • Prepare for and attend production meetings
  • Manage associate attendance adhering to current attendance policy
  • Identify and resolve plant problems; seek help when necessary
  • Show initiative- ability to manage plant with little supervision
  • Develop and sustain training for all positions
  • Perform as production/ shipping associate when needed.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to meet these requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.

 Essential for job function requires the ability to:

  • Lift up to 60 pounds
  • Stand for a minimum of 8 hours with limited breaks
  • Stoop, twist, bend and work overhead
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity
  • Tolerate extremes in temperature
  • Perform visual inspections
